Committee Charge

The VALE Shared Information Literacy Committee is responsible for sharing ideas, information and materials related to information literacy among VALE member libraries for the purpose of minimizing the duplication of efforts and advancing the local information literacy goals of participating libraries.

What is the Shared Information Literacy Committee?

The Shared Information Literacy Committee has over 25 members and is active in sharing good practice of information literacy initiatives. We meet 6 times a year, generally via videoconference between 2-3 Rutgers or UMDNJ locations, with one meeting in the summer at a central location. Our members have been active in developing and utilizing the Information Literacy Progression Standards. We regularly join forces with the NJLA/ACRL User Education Committee for meetings and to develop programs. Please contact one of the committee chairs for more information on any of our activities. We are happy to welcome new members.

Information Literacy Progression Standards

The Progression Standards were launched in January 2010 having been developed by a Task Force representing the VALE SIL Committee, the NJLA/ACRL User Education Committee and the CJRLC Academic Reference Librarians’ Committee. This link (above) takes you to a wiki where you can download a copy of the Standards and view sample assignments that incorporate the information literacy skills highlighted within the Standards.
