SUMMARY:Harnessing Self Awareness - Professional Development Training
DESCRIPTION:VALE’s Professional Development Task Force invites you to attend “Harnessing Self Awareness”\, an interactive\, participatory session presented by WorkWise Labs\, designed to help explore how self-awareness can enhance your professional effectiveness\, communication\, and collaboration. Through guided activities and reflection\, you will gain insights into your own behaviors and how they impact your work and relationships. \n\nProgram Topic: Harnessing Self-Awareness\nDate and Time: December 2\, 2025 from 9:30am-11:30am\nVirtual or In-Person: Virtual\nRegistration Link: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/dOiA9F50Rm6ZG38zUaI9Qg\n\n# of Participants: Max 30 participants \n\nRegistration is first come first served and is limited to one attendee per member institution.\nIf capacity is not reached\, registration may be opened to multiple attendees per institution.\n\nIt is not recommended for multiple attendees to share one screen as the program is about self-awareness and an opportunity for personal reflection. \nWork Wise Labs sessions are interactive and participatory. \nExpectations for Participants: \n\nShow up on time\nStay for the entirety of the session\nCameras will be on (whenever possible)\nParticipate in the interactive session\n\nProgram Description:\nSelf-awareness is the foundation of emotional intelligence\, yet research shows that while most people believe they are self-aware\, only a small percentage truly are. This interactive workshop will help participants explore the key components of self-awareness and develop practical strategies for deepening their understanding of themselves and their impact on others. Through engaging discussions and exercises\, we will examine private self-awareness—knowing our values\, passions\, aspirations\, and ideal environments—and public self-awareness—understanding how our reactions\, patterns\, and behaviors shape the way others perceive us. Using the framework of “The Mirror and the Portrait\,” participants will reflect on how they see themselves versus how they are seen by others\, uncovering valuable insights to enhance their personal and professional growth. \nIf there are any questions or comments\, please contact Elissa Zylbershlag (elissa@workwiselabs.com) or a member of the PD Task Force: \n\nConsuella Askew (consuella.askew@rutgers.edu)\, VP for University Libraries\, Rutgers\nEvelyn Frangakis (evelyn.frangakis@ptsem.edu)\, Chair VALE Exec. SUMMARY:Champion Underrepresented Identities with Lived Places Publishing
DESCRIPTION:Register here: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/dtUlBqVWQwufw1t5i1U3Tg \nChampion Underrepresented Identities with LPP \nLived Places Publishing (LPP) is a small\, independent publisher of applied\, concise course readings that represent often marginalized people. As Information Today recently wrote\, “LPP is an ambitious and intimate endeavor with the goal to bridge identity and place\, scholarship and storytelling\, rigor and empathy.” \nCovering topics like Disability Studies\, Black Studies\, Queer and LGBT+ Studies\, and Carceral Studies\, LPP’s titles are written by\, or about\, real people who are experiencing the challenges and joy of their identity in the context of place. According to Library Journal\, “…Readers can immerse themselves in (LPP’s) stories of Korean gay men in Seattle\, a Mexican American family in Texas\, a woman who owns a small business in the U.S. rust belt\, a woman with undiagnosed autism in New York\, and members of the Buddhist minority in Bangladesh…Theirs are personal stories coupled with conventional scholarship.”   \nLPP’s Publisher and Co-founder\, David Parker\, is inviting VALE members to participate in a live\, interactive webinar on Friday\, Oct. 24 at 10:30am EST. \nDuring the webinar you will learn\, and if you’d like\, provide input on how LPP: \n\nHelps faculty increase student engagement\, compassion\, and critical thinking: LPP’s titles include suggested learning objectives and activities that can easily be added to their syllabi.   \nSupports Open Access: 5% of each sale funds LPP’s open access titles.  \nOffers library-friendly terms: LPP offers a perpetual access model with unrestricted access\, no DRM\, and whole ebook ILL as well as an affordable subscription.

SUMMARY:The Future of Digital Collection Stewardship and Management
DESCRIPTION:Join JSTOR for an engaging webinar specifically for VALE on the future of digital collection stewardship. Library and special collections leaders have helped us understand that significant challenges exist toward the beginning of the archival process\, well before discovery and access. Early stages\, including metadata creation\, involve time-consuming manual work that is difficult to scale. Today\, JSTOR is prepared to play a transformative role in improving access\, usability\, and collection preservation\, similar to how we converted journal archives to digital form to expand knowledge nearly 30 years ago. \n\nThis webinar will showcase JSTOR Digital Stewardship Services and the flexible\, scalable options for all libraries and archives. We’ll also be sharing a behind-the-scenes look of Seeklight\, the first of its kind AI metadata and collections processing tool. \nRegister: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/S3U0KgdeR9iOdSVzz0xrzg\n\n
